Bird Sanctuary

Sanctuary: a place of refuge

I just had to share these pictures of our bird friends. We've been working hard to make our backyard as welcoming to the local birds as possible, and it's become a popular hang out to a variety of birds.

It's fun to wake up in the morning and watch the birds as they explore our yard--uninhibited by our presence, land on the rosebushes and drink the water from the leaves, and sort of dig up the grass with their claws in search of bird seed. We can watch them in the morning, noon, or evening, and it's such a joy to see and hear!

My oldest son, Thomas, even saved one of the birds the other day when it got stuck in a bird feeder with walls that weren't secured. He peered out and saw bird seed flying out of the feeder and went to get a closer look. It turns out that the bird got inside and couldn't get back out, so Thomas quickly freed the bird and we removed the plastic walls. Now the birds can still get food from that feeder, but they can also hop inside for a bit. We're thrilled with our new backyard bird sanctuary!
